Setting up email accounts

There are a number of types of email account that Big Room Internet can provide and each is tailored to suit the how and where customers wish to collect their mail:

POP account

Email from a POP account 'drops down' to a specified computer - normally the users own PC. This suits customers who only need to collect email from a single computer and wish to have a lower cost account.

IMAP account

Having an IMAP account means you can view your mail from a number of different computers you may use. Mail can be collected from a base computer plus secondary computers, laptops or handheld devices.

With IMAP the user logs into their email account to view their mailboxes. Mail does not permanently 'drop down' to any one computer but remains stored centrally on the account. Each computer sees the same emails regardless of which one sends or receives each mail item.

Webmail account

Webmail allows users to send and receive email from a website environment. Hotmail operates in this way. The advantage here is that email can be managed from anywhere that has internet access.

Webmail can be combined with both POP and IMAP accounts.
